About My Counseling Practice
Thank you for visiting my website! My mission is to help my clients gain personal insight and grow.
I work with my clients through a counseling approach that is integrated and holistic, meaning that it makes use of a variety of interdisciplinary themes. Some of these themes include the following: academic & career development, health and wellness, music and the arts, spiritual and energetic traditions, multiculturalism and immigrant narratives, and women-specific issues.
I have a specific interest in the therapeutic needs of women, children, neurodivergent individuals (HSP, 2e, gifted), and trauma survivors (c-PTSD).
About Me
I love counseling, because it allows me the opportunity to watch my clients grow on multiple dimensions—mentally, emotionally, physically, and spirituality—to live more satisfying and fulfilling lives.
The academic and professional training that I employ when advising clients is interdisciplinary and integrative in nature. At Wellesley College, I completed a liberal arts education, after which I pursued my medical training at the Texas Tech School of Medicine. I earned acceptance to and completed psychiatric clerkships at Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital and the Lurie Center for Autism, Yale/Connecticut Mental Health Center, and Stanford/Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. Afterwards, I transitioned to the Yale School of Public Health to focus more specifically on the social and behavioral sciences. While at Yale, I was selected by faculty and served as a Teaching Fellow in social entrepreneurship at the Yale School of Management. I approach students with my learnings from these diverse academic disciplines.
In my practice with clients, I emphasize the therapeutic benefits of music. In particular, I am drawn to how singing can alleviate anxious and depressive symptoms, as well as how different sounds, tonalities, and lyrics can reflect and enhance the healing journey. My artistic training is with instructors at the Yale School of Music, The Juilliard School, and the Trimble Vocal Institute (in Bainbridge, WA). In my songwriting, I explore how music transports audiences into flow state, composing songs that break the distinctions between and fuse genres, such as classical, jazz, contemporary, global music, spoken word, and experimental.
Spiritual and holistic approaches are vital to how I understand personal growth and development. I bring awareness to the “whole person,” considering all aspects of the Self and promoting mind-body integration. My perspectives are drawn from Eastern philosophies and meditations, originally derived from the Vedic yogic practices. Energetic techniques that help my clients find balance, flexibility, and joy in their mental, emotional, and physical states are of particular importance.
I enjoy helping alleviate stress and lifestyle imbalances to promote holistic wellbeing. I often assign short goals and provide education on the health benefits of getting exercise, eating nutritiously, and sleeping well. Please note that I am not a licensed mental health counselor, and therefore I do not offer mental health therapy. However, I can help set critical and feasible goals to enhance wellbeing, feelings of fulfillment, and overall quality of life.
I have a specific interest in working with neurodivergent individuals, who can be characterized as highly sensitive, empathic, gifted, asynchronous, multi-potential, and even twice exceptional (with profound areas of strength and weakness). The way these individuals experience the world is complex and nuanced, often not properly understood by traditional educational and work settings. In my experience, I have witnessed how neurodivergent individuals may find it difficult to select a specific career focus, find peers, manage a more finely tuned nervous system, and deal with perfectionism and rejection. It is my privilege and honor to help my clients feel mirrored and encouraged to use their talents and gifts in ways that feel positively challenging, meaningful, and enjoyable.
I relate to my clients’ international and multicultural experiences, especially as a second-generation South Asian immigrant woman who was born in India and grew up in the UK, Canada, and the US. There is both a beauty and challenge in discovering and defining identity as a third culture kid. It brings me great joy to help individuals navigate the rich tapestry of their heritage and lived experience.
It is my goal to promote social justice, so that all individuals can receive the support necessary to live better lives. With this goal in mind, I have provided neuropsychological care to Roma orphans with the Romanian Children’s Relief, as well as mental health and wellness education to high-risk pregnant mothers at the Casa Materna in Nicaragua.
